Amidst Covid-19 continues to spread at an unprecedented rate worldwide, many countries have taken draconian measures to lockdown the countries in attempts to curb the virus spread. China, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, Malaysia, India, Australia, New Zealand have implemented world’s largest and most restrictive mass quarantines. Wuhan, China, where the virus first discovered, has been locked down since 23rd January 2020 and above-mentioned countries joined in nationwide quarantines including school closures, restricting travel, leisure, work, churchgoing and other aspects of life since March 2020. Other countries have also closed their borders, European Union has shut down all non-essential travel. A small country like El Salvador also imposed a national quarantine on its population of 6.4 million people and banned foreigners from entering the country, despite having zero confirmed cases of Covid-19.

In Malaysia, Movement Control Order (MCO) was imposed since 18th March 2020 until 14th April 2020 for a period of one month. All non-essential businesses are closed, and travel restriction is imposed within 10 kilometers from home. Malaysians are encouraged to stay at home, work from home and only one person can travel for grocery and essential items shopping. Social distancing and home quarantine become vital part of our daily life. Middle to upper class Malaysians are blessed to own a comfortable home with affordable property price in Malaysia. Having the luxury of space and comfortable home, many Malaysians enjoy staycation and quality family time at home. Besides working from home, here is the list of activities Malaysians do at home during Movement Control Order (MCO).

1. Make healthy breakfast with simple ingredients

A good breakfast keeps your body healthy and chase the virus away. Store some simple ingredients such as bread, oats, eggs, fruits and milk at home enables you to make nutritious and variety of breakfast choices. It makes a beautiful day by preparing breakfast for your loved ones at home and take pictures to upload onto Instagram.

2. Follow the trend to enjoy a good cup of Dalgona coffee at home

Staycation will not be complete without the taste of comfort – coffee. It is a huge challenge to get a cup of Starbucks coffee during Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia as there are road blocks everywhere. How to make tasty coffee at home? Dalgona coffee becomes a trend during MCO. Dalgona coffee is simple in making, you can either whisk your coffee with spoon or electronic whisker. If you whisk with spoon, the coffee looks like top left, make sure you sprinkle some chocolates to taste like Cappuccino. When you whisk with equipment (bottom right), the texture of Dalgona coffee becomes frothy and taste like ice-cream coffee. Both ways your Dalgona coffee taste like heaven!

3. Stay fit and practice yoga in the living room

Staying fit with a short 60-minutes workout three times a week is no longer an excuse when you work from home. Stretch your muscles and practice restorative yoga releases muscular and nervous tension even more profoundly than when we are sleeping. Practice yoga in the spacious living room is definitely in my bucket list during MCO. Quick tips to those who plan to workout at home: all you need is a yoga mat and a good instructional video, that’s it!

4. Spend quality time with family and friends through Zoom meeting

We are lucky to live in 2020 where internet is a norm and smartphones is part of our daily life. We can download Zoom and adopt a piece of technology at home to keep in touch with our loved ones. Have you tried the Zoom meeting with your family and friends? MCO is the best time to try!

5. Pamper yourself with aromatherapy spa in the bathtub while enjoying a glass of wine

Set the mood right, play a vacation soundtrack and turn your bathroom into an aromatherapy spa. MCO is the best moment to bring out your favorite essential oils, be it calming lavender, rose, chamomile or energizing lemon, peppermint. Personally, I love the exotic smell of Eucalyptus essential oil. Draw a warm bath, place your favorite drink by the side, sink into your bathtub and let mother nature do her botanical best for you. What is a relaxing night pampering yourself in your own bathroom?

6. Play water game under the sun

Having a kiddie pool is a must in your bucket list if you want your kids to be occupied at home and enjoy a staycation. I can’t think of a better activity for kids than to soak in the water and play under the sun during MCO. Kids can obtain an adequate supply of Vitamin D under the hot sun and it drains their energy to promote sound sleep later on. Look at their happy face, kids are having fun playing with water while getting Vitamin D. Do you agree that this activity kills two birds with one stone?

7. Gardening with style

It is always wonderful to have a piece of green corner at home. Gardening can be tedious and mundane if you treat it as a chore. Instead take gardening as a hobby and do it with style. You can always water your plant in a glamorous manner and that activity creates excitement!

8. Romantic candlelight dinner on Saturday night

Do you have the thought of preparing candlelight dinner at home at the back of your mind? MCO is the best moment to materialize your dream of having a romantic candlelight dinner with good music and good company. Rekindle the romance and ignite the passion that both of you enjoyed so much on your first date! A glass of wine or cocktail will lift the mood and ambience from dining room to bedroom.

9. Glamorous picnic at your backyard

During MCO, it is important to obtain plenty of Vitamin D as we are staying indoor most of the time. Setting up an outdoor picnic, pack your favorite drinks and food, enjoy your morning brunch outdoor and spend quality family time together is feasible during MCO. Make sure you set up a glamorous picnic at your backyard once a week…
